Cora Hueber
Hometown: Fort Collins, Colorado
Age: 17 years old
Things are busy right now for Cora as she prepares to enter her senior year next fall at Rocky Mountain High School and meet the challenges of finishing strong. She was recently elected to Student Council for the third year and is looking forward to representing her class. Cora is also on her school's Link Crew and she participates in Unified Sports. She is also super-excited at her successful completion of filmmaking courses which qualifies her to be on the production team for video announcements. Cora can't wait to get in front of the camera! Despite all her busyness, Cora also has a part-time job at Tandem Squared Rolled Ice Cream and Coffee where she loves chatting with customers and preparing excellent ice cream.
Cora is by nature an encourager and she loves to serve her community. Every Christmas, Cora dons her elf suit, becoming Topsy and accompanying Santa and Mrs. Claus to visit children with special medical needs in their homes as part of the Secret Sleigh Project. She also loves to be a guest reader at local preschool and elementary schools where she shares great picture books about diversity as well as her experience as a person growing up with Down syndrome. Through those opportunities, she is developing her advocacy and activist skills. Most recently, Cora's dad invited her to speak at his company's quarterly Diversity presentation where she challenged his colleagues to see people with disabilities as capable and to give them a chance to prove it. Cora hopes to continue confidently sharing her message of inclusion and respect in her school and her community.
